Meaningful, person-centred life opportunities enabling everyone to find pathways to progress
From creative arts to horticulture, equine and animal care to cookery and hospitality, and workshop skills to sports and fitness, take part in our daily programmes of activities for all ages and abilities at Standish and Leigh
Based at our two centres in Standish and Leigh, everything we offer is meaningful and has a purpose and outcome - we are not a day centre, we’re a community hub offering personalised plans that enable people to thrive.
From creative arts to music, horticulture to animal care, workshop skills to cookery and hospitality, choose what you’d like to do, either for a full or half day. You’ll receive your own personalised plan of exciting opportunities and get regular progress reviews. Whatever support needs you might have, we have the staff to adapt any programme to you.
My Life Opportunities Standish
At My Life’s Standish site, enjoy an inspiring setting of 84 acres of green land with our own woodland, farm, cafe and equestrian centre. With classrooms, chalets, greenhouses and workshops, it’s the perfect environment to experience everything from arts and crafts to animal care, woodworking to catering, music to physical activities.
With specialist healthcare support staff and facilities, including a fully accessible hygiene suite, available to members, it’s the perfect environment to live your best life.
My Life Opportunities Leigh
Our fully accessible Leigh site is based within Leigh Sports Village, with state-of-the-art facilities including a leisure centre, swimming pool and fitness centre. We pride ourselves on our ‘home from home’ atmosphere and offer daytime activities onsite and offsite, some of which take place on Leigh Harriers’ running track and fantastic outside gym.
Our three working areas include a fully equipped accessible kitchen, used for building skills in catering and hospitality, plus space for socialising and hosting our wide timetable of activities.
Our work
Our team and volunteers all have one aim in mind, to help our members live a good life and enjoy the opportunities that we offer. But they’re also trained, skilled in their specific areas and have all the relevant qualifications and certifications to help people thrive and feel safe. Find out more in our new prospectus!
Events
As part of the My Life Opportunities programme, our members design, build and host community events with a difference. From our popular annual Halloween event to summer parties in a tent and the Tough Swampy fundraiser, there’s always something our community is planning.
My Life chalets
Our respite care offering at the heart of our Standish site means people can use our fully accessible chalets at My Life to stay for a few nights and then take part in My Life Opportunities programmes during the day. This initiative has been incredibly successful for some of our members.
How to join us
Most people come to My Life Opportunities funded by a directly commissioned health or social care budget or by using a direct payment, although we can also cater for students if the LEA agrees to fund a placement. We also do take people funded from personal resources. Whatever your support requirements, all our staff are fully trained and matched to support a variety of needs – this may be minimum support or tailor-made arrangements.
Case studies and community work
My Life is a completely inclusive environment, where members can interact and have conversations with a wide variety of people. But we don’t close ourselves off at our sites in Standish and Leigh. One of our key aims is to get people interacting with their communities and widening their networks. Read our latest success stories on our case studies page and see our mission and vision in action.
Pathways to Progress
We have ambitions for everyone we support, which is why also offer unique, person-centred pathways. Guided by professionals and taking place over a number of days each week depending on the needs of participants, we have a number of specific programme areas - including equine care and catering & hospitality - which can lead to qualifications, but most of all develop functional, transferrable skills and networks that support transition from college to adulthood.
