How we are run

My Life is a charity, limited by guarantee. We get some of our income from our membership and a small profit from the training, workshops and events that we run.

We have a board of trustees and the day to day operation is overseen by Caroline Tomlinson, our CEO. The board of trustees give their time free to My Life, which has enabled it to become a self-sustainable organisation.

Board of Trustees

We are governed by a highly experienced Board comprising nine Trustees, who give their time freely to the charity (except our founder who was employed as CEO in mid 2016 but remains an important trustee).

Their expertise and time have been invaluable to the growth of My Life Legacy and to it becoming self-sustaining. The Board of Trustees meets formally every 8-12 weeks to set the direction and priorities for My Life Legacy and to monitor performance.

All Board Meetings are fully documented, and decisions are by committee. Any conflicts of interests are declared at all meetings.

Being a trustee means making decisions that will impact on people’s lives. They use their skills and experience to support the charity, helping it to achieve its aims.

The Board of Trustees has recently been extended to bring a wider range of expertise and further oversight in the form of an Audit, Quality, Safeguarding and People Committee. This will enable the charity to further extend the development of all aspects of the business.

We have a Corporate Calendar so the Board of Trustees can have oversight at their quarterly meetings and provide governance and oversight to the charity; the Board Assurance Framework enables us to manage and control all risks and identify the gaps, tracking performance and quality.

Staffing, Training & Development

Our workforce is our biggest asset and our ambition is to create a hugely successful team that is well equipped to deliver high quality training in all aspects of care, support and life.

We now employ over 150 staff who all work in very different environments providing high- quality person-centred care and support – many have significant skills and gifts to share. We have developed a competency framework in which all our staff are employed.

Regardless of their starting position staff are encouraged to develop a career pathway through this framework. We invest heavily in staff training and development and encourage every member of staff to join a continual professional development journey using our My Life Training and Development Passport.

One of the reasons we champion this culture of personal and community progress at My Life is that it can have a huge impact on the people who work here – or want to work here – as well as the people we support.

With a happy, fulfilled and ambitious workforce, we can attract more people to My Life, and maintain and retain the brilliant practitioners that make My Legacy the organisation it has become.
