My Life CEO Caroline Tomlinson features on BBC Breakfast TV

On Monday 18th February our very own CEO Caroline Tomlinson and her son Joe featured in a BBC Breakfast special report.

The news feature was a result of a BBC investigation into care at home for adults with learning disabilities.

Caroline was interviewed about her experience of having a personal budget for her son Joe and how his care works well via a team of personal assistants which they employ through a Direct Payment.

However, Caroline explained that more government investment is needed so that councils are able to fund people who need support appropriately. She stated that they hadn’t had an increase in their budget for over 10 years which makes recruitment and retention more difficult, especially for those with complex needs.

“We know that many families struggle with the ongoing complexities of employing your own staff and thinking about who will do this when I’m no longer around, which is why we set up My Life – to help make sure that people get the care and support they deserve,” said Caroline.
