FREE 3-day workshop for carers

My Life is running a 3-day workshop called ‘Time for Change’ specifically aimed at families who have a child, young person or adult with a disability or support need, going through the transition process or a period of change.

It’s specifically aimed at developing a real plan for your family member that takes into consideration all the different aspects of their life, including preparing for independent living and planning for their long term future. We will be looking at care, education, health and housing and will give you a wide range of real options you can start to explore. It doesn’t matter what age your family member is, there is no better time to start planning for the future than today. We also will think about your needs as a carer and what you need to help you feel confident about the future.

The training will take place at our base at Thompson House Equestrian Centre, off Pepper Lane, Standish, Wigan, WN6 0PP and takes place on Friday 18 and 25 September, and 2 October 2015 from 10am to 2.30pm. Includes a light lunch.

Booking is essential, as places are limited and we are offering places on a first come, first served basis. To book, phone 01257 472900 or email info@my-life.org.uk

Plant your legacy

My Life is creating a space at our base in Standish in which people who need support because of problems associated with their age, an illness or disability can connect together. One area we are on a mission to develop is a sensory garden: a relaxing space where particularly children, young people and adults with complex needs, can explore, relax and just be themselves.

If everyone in our community gave us a plant to care for, we could create an amazing community sensory garden. So we are asking people to bring plants that ignite the senses through smell, touch, taste, or even make a lively sound. We need as many plants/ cuttings for our BIG PLANT OUT on 2nd July, so please help to spread the word. You can drop off your plants at Thompson House Equestrian Centre, off Pepper Lane, Standish, Wigan, WN6 0PP. Or, if you can’t drop off we can collect – phone 01257 472900.

Thank you!

Do you like drama and performing?

Mid March sees the start of our new drama groups for children, young people and adults of all ages and abilities.

Starting Thursday, 19 March and then every Thursday from 7pm to 9pm, will be our drama group for adults. It’s just £5 per person and it’s a great way to develop your confidence, meet new people and have fun!

Starting Saturday, 21 March and then every Saturday from 2pm to 4pm, will be our drama group for children and young people. It’s from ages 8+ (although under 8s can come along if parents stay with them). Again, it’s just £5 per child.

Both drama groups are being facilitated by Emma Moore and Daniel Carmichael of Blank Space Theatre.

To book, give us a bell on 01257 472900 or email info@my-life.org.uk

May half term activities

Make sure you book the kids in for our great May half term activities.

Movie Makers is the theme for our May half term activities, 25-29 May 2015. All ages and abilities are welcome, and activities include: recording our own theme tune, discovering the secrets of Indiana Jones, learning all about famous food and drinks, and being involved in a real live performance. Just £5 per day per child.

On 27-29 May, we are teaming up with MIXIT, an international renown theatre company from the North East, who will coach your child over 3 days to deliver a BIG musical extravaganza on the evening of Friday, 29 May (venue to be confirmed). It’s a brilliant opportunity to learn and be part of a spectacular all-singing, all-dancing cast, in front of a real audience! All ages and abilities welcome.
