Having a ball at the My Life Prom!

Having a ball at the My Life Prom!

Thursday 11th July My Life staff, members and their families and friends put on their glad rags to celebrate at the My Life Prom.

The glamourous night was a wonderful celebration of the many achievements My Life Learning students have made this year, as well as a goodbye to those graduating and going on to exciting new ventures!

A wealth of certificates for the AIM and Duke of Edinburgh awards were officially presented – a recognition of the hard work put in by our students this year.

Everyone danced the night away, enjoyed a delicious buffet and chanced their hand in the raffle. As a true celebration of our students’ successes, unlike other proms, family and friends were also invited, in recognition of the importance of their contribution to students’ achievements.

Head of Education John Mitchell said:

“This was a perfect end to a great year.  Learners and staff have worked really hard developing skills and independence and the prom was the cherry on top to celebrate everyone’s progress. The prom was well attended and enjoyed by all learners, families and staff and the dancefloor was full until closing time!”

Special mention must be given to our Apprentices Summer Grimshaw and Mia Carrier, who organised the whole event and certainly made sure it went off with a lot of bling!

We’d like to congratulate all our students on their many accomplishments this year – we’re very proud of you all. We also wish all our graduating students all the best for the future – keep in touch, you’ll always be part of the My Life family.

Welcome to our potential new learners!

Welcome to our potential new learners!

As the end of the academic year approaches, staff from My Life Learning have been inviting potential new learners to join us and see what we are all about!

This transition period gives new learners a taste of what they will be studying when they join us in September. We understand the emotional impact that new environments can have on new students and this also helps to smooth the pathway to their learning.

This month, Robert and Jenny from Hope school have enjoyed some animal care sessions, whilst Gareth Jones from Oakfield spent a full week with us, experiencing lots of different sessions and meeting all the staff.

Tilly from Astley Park will be joining the horse care sessions with Khim Grice, one of our returning learners.  Tilly came with her teacher on the first day for moral support as she was a little bit nervous, but she soon relaxed as she got to know Khim and of course lovely Chester the horse!

Tilly now comes on her own and will continue to join horse care until the end of term.  These taster sessions allow our teacher Dawn to get a good understanding of her prior knowledge of horses. Tilly has had horse riding lessons but has never taken part in activities such as grooming and stable/yard duties before.  This will be a large part of Tilly’s learning from September, as well as learning about caring for horses’ hooves, checking a horse is healthy and understanding how to identify its colours and markings.

My Life Learning offer a number of curriculum subjects and can tailor them to the requirements of individual students. As well as animal care, subjects include horticulture, ICT and media, drama, art, the Duke of Edinburgh Award, numeracy and literacy and much much more.

If you’re interested in My Life Learning and our work, please email info@my-life.org.uk or call 01257 472 900.
